Fairfax Regional EMS Conference

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department is sponsoring their 3rd Annual Regional EMS Conference on Tuesday May 13, 2014 between 0800-1500.  This is a professional development opportunity and kick off event for National EMS Week.  The Conference Team has assembled a great panel of speakers who represent the most progressive thinking and patient care practices in EMS, including:

CME credit for Virginia EMS providers will be available. All attendees will receive a certificate that can be used to assist obtaining out of state CME. The event is open to EMS providers throughout the region. While there is no cost to attend, space is limited.

Neurosurgial Look At Stroke – May 22

Thomas K. Mattingly, MD, will present “The Current and Future Role of Interventional Stroke Management.”  In his presentation, Dr. Mattingly will review the latest technologies and guidelines in interventional stroke management, including intra-arterial delivery of thrombolytics, mechanical thrombolysis and stent-retrieval.  He will also explore the role that these play in a regional stroke management system.

Zachary N. Litvack, MD, will present “Hemorrhagic Stroke – Risk Factors, Diagnosis, and Management.” In his presentation, Dr. Litvack will review current best practices in the diagnosis and treatment of hemorrhagic strokes, including cerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and non-traumatic subdural hematoma.

Vehicle Rescue Awareness and Operations – April 12-13, 2014

The Hamilton Volunteer Rescue Squad is sponsoring a Vehicle Rescue Awareness and Operations Class at the station in Hamilton Virignia on April 12-13, 2014.

This course developed by the VAVRS, Office of EMS and Dept. of Fire Programs stresses the skills and latest techniques of vehicle extrication. Emphasis is placed on:
· Orderly and efficient approach to the accident situation
· Safety procedures
· Protective equipment
· Use of tools (hand tools, power tools, hydraulic tools, air bags, etc)
This course contains both classroom and practical portions.

Course Hours: 16 hours ( 4 classroom, 12 practical)
