ALS Assist Class, March 2015

On Wednesday March 18, 2015, volunteers of the Hamilton Volunteer Rescue Squad had the valuable opportunity to take part in an in-station, Advanced Life Support (ALS) Assist training session. Paramedic Tim Ward described a number of common ALS scenarios and explained what team members could do to aid a medic on scene with each of the interventions. Topics ranged from IV and nebulizer setup to blood sugar check, blood tubes transfer, ECG electrodes placement, and drug administration and assist.

Our dedicated volunteers continuously add to their already strong knowledge base and proactively learn new skills in order to provide the town of Hamilton and the surrounding communities with the highest quality medical care.

Saturday, 03/21 and Sunday, 03/22: 08:00-16:00 hours
Saturday, 03/28: 09:00 hours until completed

LOCATION: Loudoun County Fire & Rescue Training Center

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will be a hybrid class consisting of classroom hours and online hours done through CentreLearn, in order to meet the 36-hour requirement for re-certification with VA OEMS. This course includes testing for local re-authorization. This course does not meet the renewal requirements for NREMT.

PREREQUISITES: Currently certified VA EMT
REGISTRATION: Training Requests with copies of VA EMT and AHA Healthcare Provider card are due via e-mail to LCFRTRNG@loudoun.gov by C.O.B Friday, March 6, 2015.

Training Advisory: TECC & PPE

Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) and PPE Donning/Doffing

This class will cover the following TECC skills: (1) Tourniquet, (2) Pressure dressing, (3) Wound packing, (4) Patient lifting/moving. This class will also cover the proper donning/doffing of PPE. Participants only need to attend one session to successfully complete this class.

The class student size is limited to a minimum of 6 and maximum of 24.

Register directly with via e-mail with EMS Training Manager William Toon at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled class date. Should you have questions regarding the program, please contact EMS Training Manager Toon.

Addition sessions will be added in February based on need/demand.

Training Advisory: Grant Writing Class

For the first time in Loudoun County, a class is offered on grant writing. The course will go over resources for the process and give insight into how to effectively write grant applications.

COURSE: Grant Research and Writing 101

LOCATION: LCFR Training Center
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Course covers all aspects of grant writing such as identifying the project, researching funding opportunities, developing a proposal and budget, submitting a letter of intent, accepting the grant, evaluating the project, and submitting the final report.

Training – NFA Principles of Building Construction

The Loudoun County Fire Rescue Training Center will be offering two NFPA Principles of Building Construction classes in May and June 2014.

The NFA Non Combustible Building Construction class will be offered during a three day class on May 27, May 29, and June 3 from 1900-2300.

The NFPA Combustible Building Construction class will be offered during a three day class on June 5, June 10, and June 12 from 1900-2300. 

These classes provide fire suppression personnel with information on building construction characteristics associated with different types of construction.

Hazardous Materials Awareness 2014

The Loudoun County Fire Rescue Training Center will be offering a proctored exam for the Commonwealth of Virginia Hazardous Materials Awareness class.   Proctored exams will be available on Wednesday nights at 7pm on May 21, June 25, July 16, and August 6, 2014.  Students wishing to take the test need to attend one test session only.  Testing will be at the Loudoun County Fire Rescue Training Center.

Part One (1) of this class is visiting www.vafire.com and completing the on-line Hazmat Awareness modules and obtain a course completion certificate.  All students will need this completion certificate in order to sit for the proctored exam.

Training – American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR

The Purcellville Volunter Rescue Squad (PVRS) is sponsoring two American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider (HCP) CPR classes.   One will be offered Sunday May 18, 2014 between 1300-1730.  The other will be offered Sundy June 8, 2014 between 1300-1730.

 This course is a pre-requisite for all classes offered by Loudoun County Fire and Rescue.   This is a AHA HCP Course which includes adult, child, and infant CPR as well as AED usage.  Class size is limited to 16 students.

Training – Bloodborne Pathogens

The Purcellville Volunter Rescue Squad (PVRS) is sponsoring two Bloodborne Pathogens classes.   One will be offered Sunday May 4, 2014 between 1300-1730.  The other will be offered Saturday June 14, 2014 between 1300-1730.

 This course is a pre-requisite for all classes offered by Loudoun County Fire and Rescue.  This program teaches emergency responders about infectious diseases.

The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Training Center is offering a two day Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Class on May 17-18, 2014.  This weekend class provides certification in  Pediatric Advanced Life Support.  This class will provide 16 hours of Continuing Education Units / Credits toward content for EMT-I or EMT-P.   Students need to attend both days.  All ALS providers are eligible to attend.

The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Training Center is offering a two day Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Class on May 3-4, 2014.  This weekend class provides certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support per the American Heart Association guidelines.  This class will provide 16 hours of Continuing Education Units / Credits toward content for EMT-I or EMT-P.  Initial students need to attend both days, and refresher students need to attend on the second day only.  All ALS providers are eligible to attend.

Registration is with Loudoun County directly by contacting LCFRTRNG@loudoun.gov.  Registration no later than Wednesday April 30, 2014.    See the attached flier for additional information.
